With all the buzz and media attention being devoted to AI these days, sometimes it seems as though we’ve been totally overwhelmed by it all. If you’ve ever felt that way, prepare to be disappointed. There are more storm clouds brewing on the horizon.

Anthropic, the company behind the AI platform Claude – which many feel to be the most powerful of all the AI options, recently released its most recent creation which it’s calling “Mythos.” After being released to only about 40 organizations, Bloomberg says that apparently it’s raising a few eyebrows. So much so that they’re saying it’s “too powerful for a full release to the public.” CNBC added that the company also briefed government officials on its capabilities before the release.

Why all the fuss? Axios reported that Mythos can debilitate Fortune 100 companies, infiltrate national defense systems, and take down huge chunks of the internet.

Anthropic distributed Mythos to only about 40 organizations and CNBC reported that the company also briefed government officials on its capabilities before the release. According to Bloomberg, the company said it’s “too powerful for a full release to the public.”

So, how dangerous is it? According to Axios, officials believe Mythos can debilitate Fortune 100 companies, infiltrate national defense systems, and take down huge chunks of the internet. By comparison, Business Insider has stated that a team of humans can discover about 100 critical flaws with no immediate fixes per year, but Mythos can find “thousands.”

Is there a silver lining? Perhaps. Some security analysts point out that these kinds of blockbusters tend to find their own levels of good and bad over time. What exactly “over time” means is anybody’s guess. In the meantime, we’ll just sit and watch the whole thing play out pondering still another AI disruption in our lives, our businesses, and our world.

“Everything you want is on the other side of fear.”
